I am an avid outdoors enthusiast. My husband and I have hunted extensively throughout North America and East Africa. While afield I typically gather antlers, feathers, and other natural artifacts of interest, to utilize in my art. As you can see, one of my favorite mediums on which I paint is feathers. These are wild turkey feathers, collected from the hills of western Kentucky. They are done in acrylic and each is unique unto itself. Every one is complimented with smaller feathers of various origins (duck, dove, pheasant, etc.). The quill is then wrapped with sinew and finished out with bead work. I have always been in awe of God’s wildlife and take every opportunity to photograph and study them in their natural habitat. These photos are the inspiration for much of my work. In doing so, I attempt to captivate the essence of their majesty. I hope you enjoy viewing them every bit as much as I did creating them. |
